We all are makeup lovers, some are a pro at it, some are on their way to becoming a pro and some are beginners looking for help at this blog as to where to get started. So this post of mine is for those of my beginner friends. Here I list out the basic products that you would need to get started and then let your interest take you its way.
1. Tinted Moisturiser/ Foundation/Concealer
It depends on your type of skin what product you need out of these. If you have a perfect facial skin with no scars or marks to hide, you just need a tinted moisturiser on your face and you are good to go. I myself use tinted moisturiser as the only product on my face 8 out of 10 days. Now again the question is which tinted moisturiser you should pick up from so many available in the market. Well, your skin will give you the answer. If you have oily skin, go for the one having runny consistency, for dry skin a thicker one and for combination skin, go for something mid way between the two.
If you wish to apply something that would give you a lighter skin tone and would even out your skin as well, you should be opting for a foundation. Do not forget to read reviews, check out at the counter for yourselves and then buy it. If you have pimple marks, scars or heavy dark circles that you need to hide you should opt in for a concealer first and then wear a layer of foundation.
Girls having oily skin may even need compact to set their foundation, concealer at the end. I would suggest start with one thing and see what you need next.
2. Kohl/Eyeliner
I don’t know what we girls would do without eye makeup. This is like the first thing all of us start using right? Kohl or kajal is the one that we use on the water line and eyeliner is the one that can be used on the lower or upper lash line. Eyeliners may or may not be waterline safe. You need to ask the SAs at the counters whether the eyeliner you are looking for is water line safe or not. Again, you should read the honest reviews here first.
Depending on your liking you can opt for basic colors (black/brown) or colored eyeliners like, blue green etc.
Just eyeliner can change the look of your face all together. Always opt for a smudge proof kohl/eyeliner to avoid getting racoon eyes.
3. Mascara
Now, it is very important to define your lashes and get a wakened up look. There is a variety of mascaras available in the market to meet your demands. There are lengthening mascaras to lengthen your eyelashes, volume adding mascaras for dramatic look, basic everyday mascara which just defines your eye lashes without bringing much of a change in its volume or length and then there are colored mascaras too nowadays. I would suggest first going in for black mascara. You can have two of them in your collection, one which would be your everyday mascara and another for special occasions or outings.
4. Lip Tint/Lipstick/Lipgloss
Ah! This is my most favourite part. Lips speak so much about you. Depending on your choice (or even mood) you can go for a lip tint for subtle hint of color, lipstick in nude or light shades first or a lip gloss. You may even combine a lipstick and gloss. Start with basic colors of pink, peach, nude shades and slowly advance to darker shades if you want to. Choose your lip shades wisely as they can fill in life to your face or completely make you look like you just had a break up.
I would probably do another post for lipsticks for beginners. (You can ask me to do a zillion posts on lippies and I won’t mind)
5. Blush
We look the best when we naturally blush- you know those rosy cheeks make you a step prettier. Start with light natural shades of blushes for day time- peachy ones would be good to start with. Go with a soft hand in case of blushes because most of the good blushes are very well pigmented and looking unnatural is the last thing you would want.
Depending on your skin type (dry or oily cheeks) you may pick up powder or cream blushes.
6. Makeup Remover
Of course, you need this to get rid of all of the above. There are water based and oil based makeup removers available in the market. Oil based are generally more effective in removing makeup but you have oily skin you can start with a water based makeup remover first.
There are many more things to the makeup world apart from the ones mentioned above but take your baby steps first and then advance to things like eye shadows, eye brow fillers, highlighters, glitters etc.
