Find out how formal it is
This is important because you do not want to look like you are trying to outshine the bride by wearing something nicer than her. Look at the time of the wedding
If the couple is getting married during the day, then you can opt for a dress that is shorter than what you might choose for an evening wedding. It is also important to remember that you do not want to wear a black dress to a daytime wedding. For men, a daytime wedding will usually permit a dress shirt and tie where an evening wedding will generally require a full suit.
Consider the venue
Another important cue to consider when you are planning your outfit is to think about where the wedding will be held at. If it is a beach wedding, then you will want to wear something that is has more of a beach feel, with shoes to match, such as a nice wedge. For a wedding at a country club though, you will want to wear something that is high end and trendy. Keep in mind that most churches and religious institutions will require the shoulders to be covered. If the wedding will be in a location like this, be sure to have a shawl or other cover up just in case out of respect.

This is because there will be many people in a confined space and you do not want to be suffocated by the smell of perfume. This is why you want to find a scent that will be light, but still smell great.
The main thing to keep in mind is that you do not want to be too creative and extravagant with the clothing you wear. Even though you will want to look good, the spotlight for the day should be on the couple, not on you. This is why it is important to go with an outfit that is fitting for the event.
