No Shave November

7 Reasons Why “No Shave November” is Actually the Worst Thing Ever!

No Shave NovemberShaving is a necessary evil that all must master. Men should eradicate the trend of the of taking a break from shaving in the month of November. There are several reasons why, but most have to do with the health of the skin.

1. Redness and Irritation

Men who shave each day tend to have youthful, healthy skin. This is because the hairs are shorter, so shaving them each day requires less pulling than shaving longer hair, resulting in less redness and irritation.

2. Acne

Scraping the skin relieves it of dead skin cells, which clears away potential causes of acne or blemishes, and refreshes and polishes the skin surface.

3. Infections

The ingredients in shaving creams, gels, and after-shaves contain antibacterial and anti-fungal properties, which add to the healthy maintenance and appearance of the skin. Make sure you get quality before-shave and after-shave products, oils, creams, and balms for your skin’s unique needs.

4. Unhealthy Hair

That old adage, “Shaving makes the hair grow back faster and thicker,” has no validated proof. It may or may not be true, but many men with thin, little, or no facial hair believes that they notice denser facial hair when they shave every day. Even with barely noticeable fuzz, or no hair at all, shaving gives the skin on the face a clean, fresh look.

5. Skin Blockages

Waiting to shave thick, long hair can cause acne by pulling on the longer lengths, and the denser hair can trap oils, sweat, and contaminants that are harmful to healthy skin. Shaving away the hair regularly allows the skin to clearly breathe.

6. Blemishes

Waiting to shave increases the risk of ingrown hairs, further adding to the blemishes and redness. Shaving prevents hairs from entering another hair follicle, causing irritation and swelling.

7. Red Razor Bumps

Men are just as susceptible to getting these red bumps from an infrequent shave as women are. Shaving helps to avoid getting razor bumps, since shaving often means the hair doesn’t get too long. If redness and swelling do occur, a shave helps smooth the skin before the razor bumps become too unsightly.

The benefits of shaving daily far outweigh the complaints and time required to do it. Men with extremely sensitive skin or with skin conditions may want to refrain from a daily shave, but otherwise, today’s men need to reclaim daily grooming and healthy routine. Shave on, gentlemen, shave on.
