5 DIY Hair Masks for Curly Hair

Curly hair is surprisingly gorgeous hair. You get to discover a new hairstyle every day, it is like your hair is talking out loud to you, “Hey, I have got a surprise for you, close your eyes” and BOOM!” you have a new hairstyle for the day. When you have wavy or curly hair; it is actually your curls that decide what hairdo you are going to have for the day. Some days you have inward curls, while other days you have outward curls. Curly hair are the most fun type, you never know what they have for you the next day. However, curls lose moisture more easily than straight hair, the curlier your hair the more drier they get over time.

Straight hair has a natural protective coating on the hair shaft that retains the moisture and hydration within the hair. Wavy hair also has a natural protective coating on it but the coating is comparatively much thinner than that of straighter hair, therefore wavy hair loses moisture even when you brush it. Coiled or curly hair does not have the protective layer that other hair types have. Their hair shaft is bare, with no protective layer on top; it cannot be brushed because there is no layer to retain the moisture and hydration. Curly hair, therefore, needs to be conditioned and artificially moisturised more often. Here we have five hair masks that people with curly hair absolutely swear by.

Have you ever read the ingredients at the back of your mayo jar? It contains oils and egg, both of which are good for your hair. Try this mask and you will be so amazed by the results that you would want to incorporate it into your regular hair care routine.

INGREDIENTS:

½ cup Mayonnaise

1 medium sized, mashed Banana (optional)

1 tablespoon Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Few drops of Essential Oils

Apply this mixture on to your hair and smooth it out evenly. Wear a shower cap and leave it on for 30 minutes. During that time, put some water to warm. Once it is steaming, wet a towel and wrap the wet area around your head to steam your hair. Make sure you use a large towel and squeeze it from where it is dry and cooler. Steaming allows all the ingredients to penetrate and moisturise the hair from within. Wash it off as usual.

When I say protein, I mean egg and yogurt – the two universal sources of protein. This mask will result in softer, shiny, bouncy and more manageable curls; the kind you will have after a protein treatment. In fact, you might even possibly have hair that is a little straighter after washing it off. I, personally, have noticed softer and shinier locks, so soft that I keep playing with them.

INGREDIENTS:

1 Egg

2 tablespoon Yogurt

2 tablespoon of Honey

2 tablespoon Extra Virgin Olive/ Coconut Oil

Mix everything in a blender until smooth and applicable. Apply it all over your hair, from the roots till the ends, focusing more on the ends. Wear a shower cap and let it do its thing for at least 30 minutes. Wash it off like usual and see the results. You will love your hair!

Try these masks and modify it according to what your hair needs. Use these masks on a regular basis and trust me you will never want to look back, for the results will amaze you. At least use them once every two weeks.
