Ever put on your favourite outfit to then look in the mirror and feel like there’s something missing? Thousands of women get this feeling every day, whether they’re wearing a work uniform or maternity clothes, however there’s a simple solution to this problem: accessorising! Your accessories can be as bold or as simple as you like, but either way they’re bound to jazz up your outfit!

1. Necklaces

One of the easiest items to accessorise with has to be the necklace, as they can be paired with any outfit and still look amazing! There are a number of styles of necklaces too, meaning you are bound to find one that you love and can put to good use. Necklaces are the perfect way to brighten up a plain t-shirt and jeans combination, a look that is extremely popular right now. The various styles of necklace that you can get include:

Classic Style Necklaces – These are the perfect all round necklace, they can be worn with a casual outfit as an accent, or can be teamed with formalwear as a quiet piece of jewellery. These necklaces are often just a simple gold or silver chain with a single stoned pendant to add a bit of glam to your outfit.

Pearl Necklaces – Pearl necklaces have been popular for hundreds of years, and until the 1900’s were only worn by the upper class, making them an extremely desirable piece of jewellery. Although they can’t really be worn with casual outfits, they look fantastic when worn with office wear, or with a formal outfit. Many people still associate pearls with higher classes, so wearing one with your outfit is sure to get you noticed!

Statement necklaces – Fashion is changing constantly, including styles of jewellery. Right now statement pieces are in, and what better way to follow this fashion than with a necklace? You can buy bold jewellery from almost any fashionable clothing shop, and there are a variety of styles to make sure you can get one that’s perfect for your outfit.

2. Hats

Although some people think of themselves as not being a ‘hat person’, I think that you shouldn’t knock it until you’ve tried it. Despite popular belief, hats can be quite easy to pull off as long as you find a style that’s right for you. Having a good shop around and trying on various different styles is the best thing you can do, but some of the most popular styles of hats are:

Woollen Hats – Perfect during the winter months, woollen hats are a great accessory for any woman. They look best when teamed with a matching scarf and coat of your choice, however more recently they have been seen worn by themselves with a cardigan and t-shirt combination. Woollen hats are an extremely casual accessory so be careful not to team it with an outfit that’s particularly formal.

Wide-Brimmed Hats – Now onto a more formal style, the wide-brimmed hat can be worn during both summer and winter. They can be teamed with a tea dress and sandals in the summer to create a more put-together look whilst also being a fantastic sun hat, or pieced with a long winter coat when it starts to get colder. Buying them in a neutral colour is best, as then it can be worn with a number of outfits and match perfectly.

3. Scarves

An absolute must have this year, scarves are able to brighten up any outfit. The floaty, chiffon style patterned scarf is a current favourite as it can be worn in a multitude of ways. For example, it can be worn around the neck for a classic look, tied around your hair as a cute new take on the headband or tied around your handbag to add a little something different. These types of scarves are perfect for wearing with a casual outfit such as a cardigan and jeans as it adds a layering effect. Chunky knit scarves are also coming back in a big way, particularly when worn with a jacket or coat. Stocking up on a few different coloured scarves will mean you have one for every occasion, and can help to spruce up your outfit on days when you feel like adding a bit of colour.

4. Handbags

Handbags are arguably the ultimate accessory, as they can easily make or break an outfit. Although there is so much choice for what style, colour and size of handbag you can get, one easy solution is to find your perfect go-to bag. Buying a classic style, such as a satchel, in a neutral colour means that you can team it with any outfit and it will still look perfect. For more formal occasions however, clutch bags and small shoulder bags are often more favourable as they can add a bit of glitz to your outfit without overpowering it. Again, a classic clutch bag in black will work wonders for any outfit, however it’s also nice to have a statement bag that will really make your outfit pop.
