Chapped Lips

How to Protect Your Skin & Get Rid of Chapped Lips

Your skin needs protection and care throughout the year, and so do your lips. But while your beauty regime during hot weather may be fairly relaxed, it might need to change as it becomes cold.

If you want to know how to get rid of chapped lips and protect your skin against the elements then first you need to understand what causes them. Many of the things that affect our skin are a result of our responses to the weather rather than the weather itself. As such they are much easier to deal with.

Understand Your Central Heating

When it comes to getting rid of chapped lips, one of the key causes is actually central heating.

Central heating takes moisture from the air in your home and from your skin as a result. This can leave you feeling drained and looking a little less spritely than usual.

As the external temperature lowers and the artificial heat goes up, this problem grows. Luckily there is a quick and easy fix. Just put a small bowl of water next to your radiator whenever the heating is on. The liquid will be absorbed into the air, replacing the natural moisture that’s being lost and making sure your skin stays healthy all year round.

Protect Your Skin When Outside

Another way in which cold weather can affect skin and lips is through harsh winds. As they blow on our faces day after day, month after month, they can remove the essential oils that gives skin its healthy glow.

To combat this problem, you need to create a protective shield around any skin that is likely to be exposure when you’re outside. The best way to do this is with an effective moisturizer.

Try out a few products to find one that matches your own skin type and make sure it is heavy enough to get you through the colder months. Apply liberally before heading out into the cold and use it as a way to get rid of chapped lips by applying to this sensitive area too.

As well as learning how to get rid of chapped lips and dry skin with moisturizers you should also do what you can to cover any exposed areas of your body – and face – when heading outside. This will not only keep them warmer (and more comfortable) but it will also reduce the drying out effects of the cold weather.

Keep Your Body Hydrated

Finally, to keep you looking lovely right up until next spring remember the most important tip when it comes to fresh, healthy skin: hydration, hydration, hydration.

During cold weather, we tend to drink more hot beverages like coffee and hot cocoa. While these might do the trick when it comes to warming you up, they may not be as hydrating as you think due to the caffeine they contain.

Keep an eye on what you consume and if necessary have a few extra cups of water or opt for plain, decaffeinated drinks where possible. Hot water with a bit of lemon and fresh ginger is sure to warm you up nicely and give you some much-needed fluids.

With these tips, making sure your chapped lips and dry skin are treated during cold weather will be easy – helping you look and feel better whatever the time of year.
