Fortunately, there are some gorgeous fashion rings available, modelled on timeless and recognisable classics, the originals of which would cost thousands upon thousands of pounds. These versions, made carefully and lovingly by true craftsmen, cost considerably less, fortunately.
When it comes to designs, why not take inspiration from some famous engagement rings that have graced the hands of some of the world’s most famous women?
Grace Kelly
Given to her by Monaco’s Prince Ranier III, Grace’s emerald cut diamond has been valued at around $2 million. This was her second engagement ring. The first – an eternity band of rubies and diamonds – Prince Ranier considered ‘too small’, replacing it after seeing how big the diamonds were in the USA.
Lady Diana
One of the most iconic rings, which now belongs to the Duchess of Cambridge, of course, was the sapphire and diamond ring that Prince Charles presented to shy Diana Spencer back in 1980, though it came after the initial proposal. It is apparently the most copied engagement ring ‘to date’.
Jackie Kennedy
Her unique engagement ring comprised a 2.88 carat diamond placed next to an equivalent carat emerald surrounded by ‘tapering diamond baguettes’. A unique design that also featured 1.46 carats of marquise diamonds.
Victoria Beckham
Posh’s engagement ring, which shattered the hearts of David Beckham fans world-over, is a tasteful marquise cut solitaire diamond set in platinum, with trillions on either side of the rock. It is rumoured that Victoria has two rings – an original, less expensive version that David purchased before hitting the ‘big time’ and a second that was a more expensive version.
Ultimately, it’s not what you spend on a ring, it’s the care you take to choose it and the meaning behind the gesture that really counts.
