It’s so easy to overpack, especially if you are planning a fun weekend trip with your girlfriends. You’ve probably thought of comfy clothes, cute shoes, your most stylish accessories, and perhaps a waist trainer to help you look your best. These are, of course, very essential, but there’s more to a successful trip than just looking good.
In order to make sure that you and your girls have the best time, there are several other items that could come in handy on your weekend getaway. Here are seven must-have items to make your girls’ weekend getaway truly unforgettable.
1. Comfortable Undergarments

Your choice of your underwear can make or break your fun weekend trip. Think about it. If you are wearing an uncomfortable top, you can buy a new one almost anywhere and change anywhere there’s a bathroom. But, when it comes to your underwear, this is just not possible. You will have to wait until you can go back to your room and change.
Your regular underwear is fine, but if you are traveling to a place that might involve a lot of walking, staying outdoors for a long time, or if you plan on trying any activities, opt for something more comfortable. Breathable, seamless, fast-drying and lightweight materials are your best bet. For example, high-waisted panties, fitted bras with adjustable straps and seamless boy shorts made out of comfortable fabrics all make great choices.
2. Shoes
A girls’ weekend trip can be as spontaneous as it gets. You might go dancing at a club, explore a museum or decide to go hiking on the spur of the moment. As such, packing shoes will always be a challenge. However, if you want to be prepared for all kinds of occasions, pack at least two pairs: a pair of casual flat shoes that will go with almost any outfit and a pair of high-heeled shoes that can make your dressy outfits look complete.
Keep in mind that your destination choice will also dictate your shoe selection. For example, if you are planning to go to a beach destination, pack sandals or flip-flops. Similarly, for colder climates, opt for warm boots and put on extra layers of socks to keep your feet cozy and warm.
3. Toiletries
A toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant, body wash, lip balm and shampoo are the basics to pack, irrespective of where you go. Still, if you have checked and confirmed that the hotel or Airbnb you’ve booked provides some of these amenities, you can leave them behind to have more room for other items.
A basic makeup kit should include foundation, concealer, mascara, eyeliner, eyeshadow and blush. Additionally, if you have sensitive skin or suffer from any skin condition like acne or eczema, make sure to carry your special treatment creams as well. Also, don’t forget to carry your makeup remover and wet wipes for quick cleanups.
4. Consider Your Devices

A weekend trip with the girls is a time to connect in person, share epic experiences and unwind. As such, chances are you might not even touch your phone or laptop throughout the duration of the trip. In fact, it’s best to have minimal distractions and focus more on each other.
But if you plan on taking photos or recording videos to share with your friends back at home, carry a digital camera or your phone. For outdoor activities like swimming, rafting or camping, it’s wise to have a waterproof phone case for your camera. This way, you can freely take photos and videos without worrying about any device damage.
Portable chargers and power banks can be useful if you plan on going somewhere off the grid for a few days. And entertainment devices like portable speakers can also be a great way to liven up the mood and get into the groove.
5. Clothes
Of course, you want to look your best wherever you go. Pack clothes that can take you from day to night without having to change too often. A few casual items like loose jeans or shorts, tank tops and T-shirts, a swimsuit if you plan on spending some time in the pool or beach, and one or two dressy outfits should be enough for most trips.
Just like choosing the right shoes, your clothing selection should be based on your destination and planned activities. If you’re heading to a colder place, layering is crucial for staying warm and comfortable. Warm places will give you the freedom to wear simple but fashionable outfits like a maxi dress, playsuit, or a crop top and skirt combo.
Simple accessories like a scarf, a vest, hats and sunglasses can be enough to give your outfits a nice touch. You can elevate your style from casual to formal with something as simple as a statement necklace.
6. Bags

If you’re planning a weekend getaway that lasts between two to three days, a small duffle or backpack and a carry-on tote should suffice. When choosing a duffle bag, ensure that it has ample space to accommodate all your belongings without becoming overly bulky and hard to store.
You can add a small purse or clutch for nights out. Opt for a stylish leather one with extra pockets and compartments to keep all your stuff, like cards and cash, organized.
7. Snacks and Hydration
Hunger does not wait for anyone, so make sure to carry snacks like nuts, dried fruits, crackers and energy bars with you. When it comes to staying hydrated, bringing a reusable water bottle is always a great idea. Put some ice cubes in it before you leave your hotel, and you will have cold water throughout the day. Staying hydrated is especially important if you’re going to be somewhere hot or anytime you consume alcohol.
Have Fun With the Girls!
Planning a weekend getaway with your girlfriends can be as exciting as the trip itself. While packing, remember that the goal is to have a stress-free, enjoyable time. Therefore, consider your destination and planned activities and pack accordingly. Don’t overpack; keep it simple and practical. More importantly, the real essence of the trip is to bond, relax and create unforgettable memories with your girlfriends. So, prioritize experiences over items, be flexible and open to spontaneous plans, and don’t forget to live in the moment and enjoy every bit of your adventure.
