You get to discover a new hairstyle every day, it is like your hair is talking out loud to you, “Hey, I have got a surprise for you, close your eyes” and BOOM!” you have a new hairstyle for the day. When you have wavy or curly hair; it is actually your curls that decide what hairdo you are going to have for the day. Some days you have inward curls, while other days you have outward curls. Curly hair are the most fun type, you never know what they have for you the next day. However, curls lose moisture more easily than straight hair, the curlier your hair the more drier they get over time.

Straight hair has a natural protective coating on the hair shaft that retains the moisture and hydration within the hair. Wavy hair also has a natural protective coating on it but the coating is comparatively much thinner than that of straighter hair, therefore wavy hair loses moisture even when you brush it. Coiled or curly hair does not have the protective layer that other hair types have. Their hair shaft is bare, with no protective layer on top; it cannot be brushed because there is no layer to retain the moisture and hydration. Curly hair, therefore, needs to be conditioned and artificially moisturised more often. Here we have five hair masks that people with curly hair absolutely swear by.

INGREDIENTS:

½ cup Mayonnaise

1 medium sized, mashed Banana (optional)

1 tablespoon Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Few drops of Essential Oils

Apply this mixture on to your hair and smooth it out evenly. Wear a shower cap and leave it on for 30 minutes. During that time, put some water to warm. Once it is steaming, wet a towel and wrap the wet area around your head to steam your hair. Make sure you use a large towel and squeeze it from where it is dry and cooler. 5 Cool Hairstyles to Spice-Up the Looks of Your Naturally Curly Hair https://chicmags.com/5-cool-hairstyles-spice-looks-naturally-curly-hair/ Tue, 18 Dec 2012 07:05:54 +0000 http://www.chicmags.com/5-cool-hairstyles-to-spice-up-the-looks-of-your-naturally-curly-hair Women with curly hair are often told to opt for straightening, since it is quite difficult to maintain curly hair than straight/wavy hair; however, when you give it a serious thought, you would find both good and bad things about it.

At times, you might feel like pulling the strands and making it straight, and sometimes, you’d adore your beautiful curly hair. Instead of going for permanent straightening, you can stay true to natural transitioning movement by trying out these popular curly hairstyles –

Curly Bob

A short or a bob haircut is a great way to show off your natural curls, while maintaining a more controlled and professional look. In order to keep your hair healthier and styled, you may have to visit a professional hair stylist.

Curly Bob

It won’t suit everyone; those with long, oval, and square shape faces usually look cool in curly bob hairstyles, while the ones with round and heart shaped may be better off staying away from curly bobs.

Moreover, you should remember that since short cuts increase the curls, bob isn’t for you, if you want to avoid more curls. Try products that are especially designed for both curly and shorter hair.

Half Down, Half Up

Those with tighter curls and shorter cuts can also try letting a few sections hang down. No matter how much hair you decide to leave down and how much is kept up, do consider styling it wisely. Half down, half up hairstyles aren’t really common; it should be frizz free and frame your face. It shouldn’t look greasy, but rather be well-maintained and have a sleek upper layer.

Half Down, Half Up

So, you’ll need to spend some quality time with a stylist on perfecting the style before you go for a change.

Braids

For women with longer hair, braids can be easy-going and stylish. Keeping curly locks in their place would be great way to spice up any look.

Braids

You can keep the front stands loose in order to give a casual, yet professional look. Always start braiding close to your neck, keeping it tight enough to hold the curl. If you’ve short cuts or tighter curls, choose scalp braids as it is extremely versatile and lasts for longer period.

Twists

Instead of trying to straighten only the front layers (which has been quite a popular style over the last couple of years), you can use twists, which have become a rage of late. This easy and quick style will offer you elegant and polished look while you’re at office, and add to your charm during evening parties too.

 Twists

Hold the twist throughout the process as it may loosen up near the end and you can make twists on a single side or on both side, depending upon your choice. The straight stranded women with French twists can create an iconic and classic hairstyle, which shows off a professional look. Use a blend of Shea butter or pomade and hairspray at the end, in order to frame the face perfectly, and avoid fly-away.

Bangs

If curly bangs are worn correctly, it can create great grown-up hairstyles; but, do not cover your eyes with bangs, especially in a work environment as it would be a reason of distraction to you as well as others.

Bangs

When going for this cut, make sure that your hair is dry enough as cutting wet curly bangs will shorten the length than wanted locks.

So, there you have 5 cool hairstyles for your naturally curly hair; go ahead and try the one(s) that liked the most.

How to Get Rid of Curly Hair https://chicmags.com/get-rid-curly-hair/ Fri, 24 Aug 2012 07:13:53 +0000 http://www.chicmags.com/how-to-get-rid-of-curly-hair For those of you who have curly hair, you will already know the upkeep and care it takes to keep your hair looking healthy and under control. It is like a romantic relationship where you need to nurture the hair and tend to it daily in order for it to behave and respond in a positive way. Curly hair can easily become dry, frizzy and out of control. It takes a lot of patience and time to keep curly hair looking well maintained and you will find that it sometimes become a bit too much to deal with if you are busy.

Curly Hair

How to Wash Curly Hair

If you do not wash your hair everyday then there are natural oils, which build up in the hair, this can be a good thing if you have curly hair as it can reduce the frizziness. If you are not able to leave your hair for a couple of days without washing it then you can simply make your hair damp and apply some conditioner to it every other day that you don’t wash with shampoo.

Controlling Curly Hair

The first thing you need to do when you want to get rid of curly hair is to simply tame the frizz rather than get rid of the curls. There are a variety of different products, which you can get in order to help control the frizz.

Don’t comb your hair – The first thing you should so is to make sure you don’t use a fine-toothed comb or brush on curly hair when it is wet. You can use your fingers or a wide toothed comb. That will help to keep your hair looking good and the frizziness at bay.

Keep it Short – If you keep your hair shorter it will tend to be more manageable and easier to keep under control.

Use Styling Products – Make sure that your products are suitable for curly hair and that you don’t allow them to build up too much which can be bad for the scalp and for the condition of the hair. If you use too many products in one go and they are all built up on the head then you can often find that your hair is more difficult to control.

Products:

  1. Anti-frizz Shampoo
  2. Smoothing Conditioner
  3. Anti-frizz deep conditioning
  4. Wide toothed comb
  5. Anti-frizz serum

If you want to get rid of curls for good and are not interested in simply taming your curls and reducing the frizz, there are certain anti curl processes that you can go through in salons which make it all permanent. These processes work on relaxing the curls and keeping the hair straighter and more manageable.

Finally, the best piece of advice you can take is to be happy with your hair and embrace what you have. If you have a head full of curls then you should enjoy it and make the most of the style rather than try to use many chemicals and tools to change it to a different type of hair. By keeping the curls under control and tame, you can keep your hair looking healthy and shiny, rather and damage it through the use of too many different products.
