They were specially developed for rough stones which for cost reasons could be made only with difficulty into round cut shapes or fancy cuts.

Rose Cut Diamond Engagement Ring:

The rose cut diamond was one of the “original”, antique diamond cuts. It gradually evolved from simple form to progressively more complex cuts, but these all typically feature an array of triangular crown facets. Diamonds that had a rose cut both above and below that is double rose cut.

The rose cut diamond has no table but somewhat somewhere between a pyramid and a hemisphere. Other names for the Rose Cut are the Rosette, Antwerp Rose (Roses d’Anvers), Dutch Cut, Crowned Rose Cut, or the Full Holland Cut. One of the most famous rose cut diamonds of all time was undoubtedly the Great Mogul. Rose cuts are seldom seen nowadays, except in antique jewelry. The rose cut is still routinely used for melée diamonds.

Old Mine Cut Diamond Engagement Ring:

Old Mine Cut diamonds are stones which have a high crown to them as well as a small table. Old mine cut diamonds were more “stubby” or “lumpy” in appearance than modern cuts, with very high crowns and deep pavilions.

The Old Mine Cut had a much smaller table than is typical of modern diamonds, and a much larger culet. It provides those viewing it with a colorful, brilliant vision. The light is able to pass through the stone in such a way that it produces a beautiful result. The Old Mine cut gave way to the rounded, more symmetrical European cut, which eventually gave rise to the modern round cut that serves as today’s standard.

Mazarin Cut Diamond Engagement Ring:

The Mazarin Cut is often considered to be the first true brilliant cut, and earliest predecessor of the modern Round Brilliant Cut diamond. The Mazarin Cut was developed in the mid 17th century.

The Mazarin Cut Diamond has 17 crown facets and 17 pavilion facets and has also been known as the “double cut brilliant”, as it was the next stage in diamond cutting ‘evolution’ after the Old Single Cut.

Old European Cut Diamond Engagement Rings:

The old European cut is considered the father of the present round brilliant cut. The old European diamond has a very small table, a heavy crown, and great overall depth. The European Cut diamond was developed in the 19th century and became very popular.

The Old European Cut diamonds were still from an era when diamonds were cut with greater regard to weight retention than to brilliance. This diamond cut was the fore-runner of the modern brilliant cut. Like the modern round brilliant, the old European diamond has a circular girdle.
